My degree as Bachelor of Science in Media Engineering, was completed with a bachelor thesis entitled “Strategies of Swiss media houses and news agencies to avoid the spread of fake news”. The thesis shed light on different aspects and types of false or fake news in order to finally come up with an own definition. Based on a secondary analysis, the confidence of the Swiss population in the local media landscape was analyzed and compared over the years. Further, with a questionnaire, media distributors (radio, TV, written news) as well as news agencies were directly addressed to find out specifically how, or whether, they protect against false reports and how they deal with them.
The thesis also contained a practical work in form of a website, where the user can easily manipulate large data sets and directly see the impact on the presentation. Refer to http://datenmanipulation.ch/ (Desktop only, best at 1920*1080, in German).
